| Bio: | The Random Musings of the Random Muse... Please engage your sense of humor circuit *prior* to reading the following. It's impossible to convey tone of voice utterly accurately in text (unless you are Mark Twain.) Much of the following is said tongue-in-cheek, and much with a smile - although I'm quite sincere, I'm not trying to be harsh. If you find yourself getting angry while reading it, odds are good that you were either a) angry before you started or b) reading something into it that doesn't exist on this end. Stop and chuckle, or pet a puppy, or kiss a baby or take a good stiff drink before reading on if you need to... Okay? then let's get started... First things first: I update and move things and re-write and edit this profile all the time. Blame the fact that I'm mercurial. If it's important to knowing me, it's in here somewhere. Or it will be. Or maybe it was. I don't know. Time is linear, but I'm not constrained by such silly notions. Read on if you are curious... This seems to be about as representative a post as I'm going to get about what to expect here - so if you're thinking about friending me, click here first. If I put it in writing, it changes the next week. I've been a college professor, programmer, general geek, paralegal, full-time Rennie, bartender, jack-of-all-trades, and a stay-at-home-mom. For what I am and what I'm doing this month - you'll have to join me and find out. I am somewhat of a dilettante, you see. I have no idea what I want to be when I finally grow up... so I don't plan on doing it for a very long time... maybe when I'm 80. I'm an elitist - this will piss you off. Even if you are an elitist too. Elitists are insufferable to most people. Fortunately for us, we don't care what most people think. Things I just feel like quoting right here Dude, it's the pen that is mightier than the sword. Not a crayon. -- zoethe One of the best aspects of LJ (at least when people put themselves out there in a real way) is that you get to listen to the inside of someone's head, so to speak. That can cut through a tremendous amount of crap in the manner in which connections are made between people. I have viewpoints based on personal experience and personal ethics/morality. You don't have to share them, but you have to understand that when I write about something important to me I'm generally not asking for a debate, argument or devil's advocate. I'm not a journalist or a reporter. I'm not a lawyer nor a politcian. I don't have to be impartial or to allow 'equal time' to folks that disagree with what I have to say. I will listen to reasonable opposition or politely worded disagreement. I may ask for an opinion where I am unsure of my own, or where I feel I lack information I will ask for more to get an impression from others. -- unquietsoul5I'm fiercely (but not blindly) loyal to my friends. LJ's subscription service calls permitted readers "Friends" a horrible misnomer, except that I find a lot of the people on my list have become true friends. I add people on LJ based on their intelligence, wit, and personality... so if you're on the list, I must find you to be exemplary... if not, please don't be offended, I may just not have seen your brilliance yet! If you find it offensive that I look for high quality in people on my friends list? I'm afraid that says more about you than me. If you're "my kind of person" it makes sense to you to try and surround yourself with people you admire. If you're not "my kind of person" - why didn't you stop reading aeons ago?? What, are you a masochist? I turned my LJ "Friends Only" in October 2004 to protect my privacy - but since I read my FL several times a day, sometimes, I remove people when I find I'm scrolling past 95% of what they write. If you want to read my LJ, but I've removed you for some reason, feel free to tell me that I made a mistake, and I'll rectify it. I just hate all the LJ politicking surrounding who is or isn't friended. *sigh* Speaking of politics... I'm a moderate Republican. I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative... shallowly summed up as Keep your hand out of my pocket and your nose out of my backyard. A tad more on that "socially liberal" part: On my FL you will find Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and representatives of every political stripe you can think of. You will find Hetero, Homo, Bi, Monogamous, Polygamous, Vanilla, BDSM, Young, Old, Parents, Childfree, Religious, Athiest, Agnostic, and just about any other kind of lifestyle or belief you can think of that I'm not listing here. If you're happy with who you are and what you are and how you live your life - then so am I. (As long as you don't ask me to pay for it!!) Oh - and there's the part about my obsession with my daughter  Kira born 1/24/2003 - that part's pretty relevant. Also relevant? The fact that I'm blissfully, completely and utterly married... to polityx - whom seems to maintain his LJ solely for my own benefit! So if you expect to hurry off to find out more about him, I'm afraid you'll have to sift it out of what I write, from the most part! We are, in fact, a Geek Household - with more computers than people - and we will be raising our daughter to understand all of our old geek jokes... as well as to be a UNIX mistress of the first order! :) The Drama Report To date, I have had at least one LJer dedicate an entire day's worth of ranting posts about me (I'm evil, I'm psychotic, pick a negative trait)... at least one other changed her LJ user info and deleted & undeleted her LJ over a post I made about something relatively benign to everyone else on my FL (seriously - it was about a figure skater)... had a couple get so mad at me they've made violent threats toward me... and probably offended a dozen more to the point of cursing my name and my lineage. This isn't a "positive, nuturing environment" for those with a thin-skin or fragile ego. If you can't seperate the fact that I disagree with you from your self-image or self-esteem - you might want to forego the experience. I don't write here to make anyone else feel safe or special or to play the "yes-woman" to them. I write here for me. If this were one of those classy LJs where the author writes specifically for public consumption - then it wouldn't be Friends Only, now, would it? This is what I call a self-weeding journal. If you can't handle it - you will soon despise me and leave anyways - so the risk is yours if you decide to take it. I'm going to guess that if I haven't scared you off by now, the odds are better you won't find it that challenging... but you never know! This is also a 1smart1 (formerly & also known as georgiaskydiver) Free Zone! If you have her on your Friends List - please walk away now. I will not add anyone who has her on their FL - and will remove anyone who adds her while on mine. Sorry... that's how it goes. She won't leave me alone - so I'm drawing the line. Honestly, there are some people in the world who are fine in combination with others but toxic to some. She's toxic to me. If she's your cup of tea, great! But I'm essentially 'allergic' to her and life is too short to waste any more energy on something or someone that has that negative an impact on me. But other than that (and this thermos) the rest is irrelevant... | |
